Volunteering

Do you care about sustainable agriculture, food entrepreneurship, and food justice? Are you interested in contributing to CitySeed’s work to build a just, local food system in New Haven?

CitySeed is seeking volunteers to support us at our Farmers Markets!

CitySeed Farmers Market Volunteers: Seeking applicants who are enthusiastic about sustainable agriculture and food justice in New Haven, and want to learn while working at Farmers Markets. The position includes set up and break down of tables and tents, selling bread and tokens, handling money and credit/debit/SNAP cards and promoting market programs. Markets shifts can include: Wooster Square (Saturdays 8:00am-1:45pm) and Edgewood Park (Sundays 9:00am-1:45pm).  This position is unpaid, but may lead to a paid position. Apply here.

Sanctuary Kitchen Volunteer

Volunteers work closely with the Sanctuary Kitchen Team and Chefs in all of our programs. Their generosity, enthusiasm, and support help to make all of our events a success!

Responsibilities vary, but may include assisting the Team, Chefs, and guests with event set up and clean up; catering food preparation, selling products at farmers markets, providing transportation and more!

During the Covid19 pandemic, volunteer opportunities are more limited – our programming has needed to pivot to virtual programming (cooking demos, panels etc.).

If you are interested, please complete the volunteer form here.

Beyond these positions, CitySeed relies on its committed volunteer base to keep our Farmers Markets running, conduct outreach, support all Sanctuary Kitchen activities (including prep cook volunteers for catering), support our food business incubation work, and ensure our events run smoothly. We are always seeking volunteers with special skills like interpretation, translation, design, childcare, IT, data management, and more.
