Sudanese Breakfast Virtual Cooking Class

Join Sanctuary Kitchen for a cooking class led by Sudanese chef Salma! Pick up the ingredients from Sanctuary Kitchen, and then cook along with Salma from home to make Ful, a hearty fava bean and vegetable brunch dish, and Basbousa, a semolina cake! Learn how to make these authentic Sudanese dishes and get to know Salma, her culinary background, and her experience as a new resident of New Haven.
This 90 minute live cooking class with Salma includes Q&A.
All participants will receive an ingredient kit with all the hard-to-find ingredients portioned out, recipes and the supply/equipment list. Recipes are vegetarian. The kits provide recipe ingredients for 2 servings, and include all non-perishable items, fresh produce, and some dairy. Attendees will need to provide eggs.
Ingredient kits are pick-up only, and can be picked up on Friday, February 26 between 4-6pm at CitySeed (817 Grand Ave in New Haven).
A class only option without the cooking kit is also available.

Salma came from Khartoum, Sudan in 2016 with her husband and children. She has been cooking for over 15 years with her favorite spices coriander and cinnamon. Her favorite dish is Shayya – grilled Sudanese steak, and is known for her traditional “smoked” tea. She feels cooking is about sharing and says that her earliest memory of food is gathering around the table with her whole family. Salma has been cooking with Sanctuary Kitchen since 2017 enjoys practicing her English, meeting people from different cultures, and teaching others about the Sudanese kitchen.
