Learn to Cook (and Eat!) Congolese Cuisine

| $35.00Join Sanctuary Kitchen’s Congolese Cuisine Cooking Demonstration and Lunch!
A unique cooking experience that gives participants the opportunity to learn authentic recipes and hear the stories from refugee cooks from the Democratic Republic of Congo — Neema and Chabusiku. Participants will observe the preparation of a traditional meal of Ugali (a starch dish made from corn- vegetarian), Lituma (a mashed plantain dish – vegetarian), Supu Nyama na Mboga (meat and greens stew), and Supu ya Ndizi (peanut stew with bananas and potato – vegetarian). You will get a chance to interact with the cooks, gain insight into the experiences of Congolese refugees and their way of life as new residents of New Haven, and enjoy the delicious meal together after the demonstration. All participants will receive copies of the recipes prepared.

Date: Saturday, June 10th
Place: Kitchen at CitySeed is located in the CitySeed office, 817 Grand Avenue, two blocks from State Street and downtown New Haven. Free parking available along Grand Avenue and on surrounding streets.
All proceeds are used to compensate the cooks and support the cost of materials and space at Kitchen at CitySeed.
