The Broccoli vs. Kale campaign in New Haven, CT was inspired by a Broccoli Extreme Makeover campaign designed by the Victor & Spoils marketing company who promote such brands as Coke and Quiznos. The project is described in this article in the NY Times. The New Haven campaign was promoted by a team of community businesses and Yale students Adam Goff, Drew Morrison and Monica Dileo. They’re giving broccoli some much needed love. “It’s great for you, it tastes great, and it hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves,” stated Drew Morrison. This team wants New Haveners to eat healthy and they want them to eat broccoli. The Broccoli vs. Kale tag line was thought up to spoof the recent popularity of kale among local foodies and bring some fun and attention to these two green powerhouses.
Here at CitySeed we love all our veggies equally, but do have a soft spot for greens. Below are some of our favorite Broccoli recipes. There are salad greens at our winter market, and kale and broccoli will make an appearance this summer and fall at our five Farmers’ Markets and our Mobile Market.
